Missing Heaven By 18 Inches
Eighteen inches. That’s the distance between your head and your
heart. And that’s the difference in knowing about Jesus in your head,
and really knowing him with your heart.
In the Book of John our Lord told Nicodemus, “Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus was a church-going man – a Jewish ruler – but he
realized there were some spiritual matters he did not fully understand.
His reply to Jesus was, “I cannot enter back into my mother’s
womb,” and Jesus explained that he was not talking about being born
of the flesh, but being born of the Spirit.
Many folks, even church-goers like Nicodemus, may never
have experienced a born again conversion. They may have a mental
or head knowledge of the Scriptures. They may understand that Jesus
is the Son of God. They may even be able to quote John 3:16. “For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.”
But they lack heart knowledge because they haven’t received
Jesus in a personal way. They haven’t asked Him to be the Lord of
their life. They haven’t been born again. They haven’t erased those 18
inches.
Maybe you’re like Nicodemus, you’ve been to church and
perhaps you’re full of head knowledge. Now, it’s time to take a real
step of faith – it’s time to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life. It’s
time to punch your ticket for heaven!
The born again experience is simply acknowledging Jesus as
Lord, asking him to forgive you of your sins, and to live in your
heart. In Romans 10:9 the Apostle Paul says that “if you Confess with
your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised
Him from the dead, you will be saved”. It’s as simple as praying like
this:
The Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I know that I’m a sinner, and I ask you
to forgive me of all my sins. I know that Jesus died for me
on the cross, and right now I repent of all my sins, and I
accept Jesus as my Savior. I ask Jesus to come into my
heart and be the Lord of my life.
I turn from my ways and I turn my life over to you.
I know that His blood has cleansed me of my sin and
that I am a new creature.
And I thank You that I’m a Child of God and that I just
received eternal life through the born again experience. In
the name of Jesus, Amen.
If you just prayed that prayer for the first time, then your
friends at PowerHour Christian Center rejoice with you. Welcome to
the Kingdom of God. So make a point of telling someone – like us!
